One Year Anniversary

We were lucky enough this year to spend the week before our anniversary on a cruise with my family.  We left Rexburg on Thursday night.  We flew out Friday early morning.  Since our cruise didn't leave till Saturday we stayed in Ft. Lauterdale for the night.  By the time we got to our hotel we were all exhausted.  We ate then headed to bed.  Between being excited for our cruise and horribly uncomfortable beds we slept only a few hours.  We headed out to the port Saturday morning.

This was our view of Miami from our ship.
We got on the ship around noon.  We quickly found a chair by the pool while we waited for our rooms to be cleaned.  We left port around 4:00.  As soon as our rooms were clean we headed down to check them out.

The second and third day we were at sea.  We spent our days laying out and checking out the boat.  Our ship was the Norwegien Epic.  It was HUGE!  It had 3 water slides.  There were restaurants and a buffet with tons of yummy food.  I think we both gained 10 pounds each.

We spent almost every night on our balcony.

Tuesday, our third day on the ship, we were in St. Marten.

When we got off the boat we found a taxi and toured the Dutch and French side of St. Marten.  It rained for the first part of our tour.  It was interesting to see how much damage some previous hurricanes had done to the island.  On the Dutch side a couple hotels had been completely demolished and there was nothing left of them. The French side of the island was much busier than the Dutch.  We stopped at a beach on the French side and two beaches  on the Dutch side.  We ended up staying on Dawn beach (on the Dutch side) for a couple of hours.  I didn't get any pictures on Dawn beach though.
Overlooking the port

Their international airport is right next to the beach.  We weren't able to see any of the big jets fly in or out.  It's not safe to be on parts of the beach when the jets are taking off.  It's so close that the jets can blow people into the water.

On Wednesday we stopped in St. Thomas.  We didn't really get to see much of St. Thomas because we took a ferry over to St. John.  On the ferry they showed us where some celebrities houses are.  We were able to see an island (Little St. James) for sale for 7 million, but the only catch was that you have to buy St. James for 50 million.  A guy in New York owns St. James and is currently building a resort on the island.  For only $10,000 a night you can stay there.  You get a private jet to take you from St. Thomas to St. James and each room has a gold toilet.  St. John was by far the prettiest place I've ever been.  We took a taxi to Trunk Bay.  It's one of the top beaches in the world.  We loved St. John because there isn't very many people who live  there and there isn't much on the island.  Kent was able to do some snorkling, but didn't see much.  We mostly just played in the water and laid out.  Our nephew Ashton loved the beach.  He spent the whole time throwing sand and letting the waves hit him.

Thursday we had another day at sea.
Friday we were in Nassau, Bahamas.  We took a water taxi over to Paradise Island.  We went to the beach for the day.  There was some pretty big waves at the beach we went to.  Kent and my brothers had a blast playing in the waves.

I gambled for the first time and lost.

We were able to see Blue Man Group again on our cruise.  My sister in law, Lindsey, was chosen to go on stage with them.  We were also able to see Legends in Concert and a magician who does shows in Vegas.  Our ship had great entertainment and even better food.  We are already missing our multiple ice cream cones a day.  We were so sad for our trip to come to an end.  We loved every minute of it and are already planning one for next year.  Thanks mom and dad for making this trip happen.  We spent our actual anniversary at my parents.

We're grateful for all that we've been able to experience this past year.  It's been the best year and we can't wait for many more.
